OSLO Jobs: Web Application Developer / Software Engineer

This is the first of two jobs available for work on our Open Learning Support / EduCommons projects.

POSITION TITLE: Web Application Developer / Software Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Instructional Technology / OSLO Research Group
MINIMUM SALARY: $40,000-45,000 (based on qualifications and experience) plus excellent benefits

Utah State University is nestled in Cache Valley, 90 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah. The area is well known for its scenic beauty and offers a variety of cultural opportunities and outdoor activities. The College of Education, with eight diverse departments and three distinguished centers, contributes significantly to the University’s status as a Carnegie Doctoral-Extensive Institution. The Department of Instructional Technology enjoys a national reputation and provides excellent teaching, research, and outreach opportunities. The OSLO Research Group carries out research and development related to increasing access to educational opportunity to underserved populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Design and develop original open source software which facilitates online learning, furthering the research aims of the OSLO Research Group
  • Contribute to existing open source software projects relevant to the research aims of the OSLO Research Group
  • Participate in research, publication, and other scholarly activities

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum two years experience building web applications
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred

  • Degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or Instructional Systems
  • Established history of contributing to open source projects
  • Experience using open web application environments and languages (e.g., Zope/Python)
