OSLO Jobs: Web Designer / Software Engineer

The second of two positions with the OSLO Research Group at Utah State University to work on Open Learning Support / EduCommons and other projects.

POSITION TITLE: Web Designer / Software Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Instructional Technology / OSLO Research Group
MINIMUM SALARY: $30,000-35,000 (based on qualifications and experience) plus excellent benefits

Utah State University is nestled in Cache Valley, 90 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah. The area is well known for its scenic beauty and offers a variety of cultural opportunities and outdoor activities. The College of Education, with eight diverse departments and three distinguished centers, contributes significantly to the University’s status as a Carnegie Doctoral-Extensive Institution. The Department of Instructional Technology enjoys a national reputation and provides excellent teaching, research, and outreach opportunities. The OSLO Research Group carries out research and development related to increasing access to educational opportunity to underserved populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Participate in the graphic and information architecture design of web applications which facilitate online learning, furthering the research aims of the OSLO Research Group
  • Implement web designs
  • Contribute to existing open source software projects relevant to the research aims of the OSLO Research Group
  • Participate in research, publication, and other scholarly activities

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Minimum two years experience building web sites which make advanced use of HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, and / or DOM
  • Minimum two years experience with design and image manipulation tools (e.g., Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred

  • Degree in Graphic Design or related field
  • Established history of contributing to open source projects
